Why choose Mallinson's?

Manufactured in Britain since 1920

We have been manufacturing frying ranges in the North West of England for a century, crafting ranges by hand using techniques our engineers have refined over many years.

Quality at a fair price

Our aim is to produce high quality ranges at the lowest possible cost to our customers. The price we quote is the price you pay – we never try to shoehorn in additional costs.

Proven range reliability

We’re proud of how reliable our frying ranges are. We offer a class-leading, full warranty on all new ranges at no extra cost and an 8 year warranty on our pans*.

Range and counter frontages

Choose from thousands of coloured fronts with options to upgrade to the ever-popular curved steel ‘Bolero’ finish, including your choice of laser cut design on the panels. All of our ranges come with LED surround lighting included in the price.

Counter range

Our most popular range. The counter itself is designed to your specified dimensions. Customers will see a fresh, modern frontage, backlit with LEDs to create an ambient experience in the customer area.

There are many options for frontages with different colours and finishes available. Fryers using a counter range will face the customer whilst frying, allowing you to greet customers when they arrive at your shop. Having a counter range will also allow the fryer to fry alone during quieter periods.

Island range

An island range is a great option for busy shops with sufficient space. This range allows the fryer to focus on frying whilst the servers can get on with serving in their own space. Once fried, chips are passed through an integrated heated chute whilst fish can be prepared as usual and stored in the heated display cabinets which house glass sliding doors on each side.

You can decide on the specific location and number of chip boxes, and there are also options to integrate bain maries into the serving side of the range, enabling you to maximise the available space. Similar to the wall range, should you require a new counter then we can design and build this to your exact specifications.

Wall range

With a recent resurgence in popularity, wall ranges are common in narrower shops, allowing you to have more pans than would have been an option if you were to have a counter range. Frying using a wall range means that you have your back to your customer. However it will allow you to have more servers, as the counter will normally be the full width of the shop, so this can be a great option for busy shops with limited space.

Should the wall range be the most suitable option then our fabricators will also be able to build you a new counter, the design of which can help transform your shop with many options to give you a look that suits your shop perfectly.

Considerations

  • Before you buy

    Before you buy

We would always recommend a site visit before you buy your new range to examine what will work in the space you have available. Our team will use your experience and theirs, to discuss how the new frying range will work best for you and your customers. Don’t worry if you are new to the fish and chip industry or the shop – the site visit will allow you to consider all options so that when you do come to make a decision, you know that it will be what is best for you.

Following the site visit, our in-house designers will produce a scale drawing of how the range will look in your shop to allow you to visualise the available shop space. This can be refined as often as you need before you make your final decision. All of our ranges are purpose built to your specification on site in the factory here at Mallinson’s of Oldham.

You can modify the width and depth of your pans, how many chip boxes or scrap boxes you require, and if you are tight for space we can even allow for specific custom made designs in your cabinets so that the type of range you specify works perfectly for you and your shop.

  • Continental style or traditional?

    Continental style or traditional?

Mallinson’s customers have the choice of traditional style frying or continental open top frying – we offer the best of both worlds.

A traditional range is fitted with angled hinged lids above the pans. Our hinged lids are built to last and have been through testing to show that they still hold true after 200,000 individual uses. Alternatively you may wish to basket fry, ‘continental style’, with an open top range and removable lid.

We offer cold rolled steel pans, welded and sized to suit your requirements and built to last. We generally make 24” x 24“ x 10” pans but we can modify this to any dimension within reason; we provide an 8 year warranty on our pans as standard.

  • High efficiency

    High efficiency

All of our ranges come with the option of a high efficiency heating system or traditional jet burner heat system. A high efficiency system is designed to save you money by using less energy to produce the same heat. Whether or not this is right for you depends on a number of factors, such as the size and expected footfall of your shop and also your opening hours.

  • Natural gas or LPG

    Natural gas or LPG

Most of our customers require ranges that are powered by natural gas, however we also manufacture ranges powered by LPG where natural gas either isn’t available or is too costly to have installed.

Here at Mallinson’s, we also manufacture our custom-made frying ranges for trailers and mobile catering vans. With limited space available, we can custom make a new frying range with reduced pan depth and additional safety features to help ensure the safe transportation of hot oil and bottled gas.

  • Dark kitchens and ghost kitchens

    Dark kitchens and ghost kitchens

As an industry, fish and chips has had to adapt over the years to maintain its position at the forefront of takeaway food in Britain. Following the global Coronavirus pandemic of 2020 more consumers have opted to have their favourite chippy tea delivered.

Whilst some shops have been able to cope with demand, others are finding that they now require an extra pan or two or even a new adapted venue to cook from – a so-called ‘Dark kitchen’, set up purely for deliveries. Dark kitchens are a great way to provide a local community with delivered fish and chips.

  • Installations

    Installations

After you have decided on the perfect specification of your range, we’ll book in an installation date and refine the details as to what is required from you prior to the range being installed. We’ll also send you an easy-to-read document which will answer any questions you may have with regards to gas and electrical supply. Many of our customers pass this on to the relevant trade (especially necessary if the range is going into a newly converted shop) to make sure that the day of installation goes as smoothly as possible.

A typical installation will take around two working days and will be carried out by our GAS SAFE engineers. Unlike some range manufacturers, Mallinson’s of Oldham ranges have been expertly designed to fit through the width of a standard door, causing as little disruption as possible. As part of our service we will remove and dispose of your existing range if required whilst replacing it with the new one. After installation, we will commission the range and give you a demonstration of how the range works, leaving you with an instruction manual to backup what you have been shown.
